Hey there we're a mid 20s couple! We've been craving being nude but our local park (Hippie Hollow) is closed for what seems like forever with no end in sight. We want to come check this place out over this next weekend and camp. Im a bit worried because we are about a 5 hour drive away and only have a 2WD sudan style car. Will we be able to make it to the beach with this type of car? Also, do we run the chance of being arrested if found completely nude? How are the camping conditions? And while we do want to meet people and just hang out we're not really looking for anything lifestyle orientated. Is this a lifestyle beach? Ill probably think up more questions as they come. Thank you for your time!
Sooo...to answer your questions in short order: No; Maybe; Basic; Sometimes. Let me explain. There have been 2WD autos to have accessed the more remote parts of the beach during very low tide but I would not recommend it. The beach is about 20 miles long from end to end and the only access points are at either end, High Island and Sea Rim State Park. I have a Jeep and have only ever placed it in 4WD when pulling someone out who was stuck but then I know how to drive in loose sand and have plenty of clearance. If you do venture out on the weekend, there will be plenty of 4WDers to give you a hand if you do get stuck but I would certainly not try it during the week as there are few people who go out during week, tow trucks will not make the trip, and cell phone reception can be very limited. My recommendation would be to either rent a Jeep for the day or link up with someone with a 4WD and ride out with them. There are absolutely no amenities in that 20 miles so you will want to take everything in that you need, and I do mean everything. Camping is legal but you will want to find some high ground to camp on or the tide will join you in your tent. Just on the West side of the Old Pier (about 10 miles in from either direction) there is a nice high area that is popular with campers. I've never heard of any nudists being arrested but if the Game Warden (the only one who patrols the beach) catches you completely nude, he will give you a ticket. Nearly everyone on the beach is very friendly, and yes some are also looking to play occasionally, not unlike Hippie Hollow, and there are always a few drive by gawkers as well as some guys with binoculars that have nothing better to do than park a few feet away and stare while they play with themselves. I very much enjoy HH also, but don't get up there as much as McFaddin and especially now obviously. Anyways, if you have any more questions, feel free to hit me up in here or send me a message.
Coming from the High Island end there is a pile of asphalt chunks right at the start I can barely get over in my 4WD F150 but if you go low tide you can probably drive around it on the packed sand right next to the surf. You'd have to stay on the packed sand by the surf for most of the way - like mkls98 said there are some deep loose sandy spots you couldnt make through in a 2wd sedan.
I will be down on Sunday afternoon and you're welcome to ride with me in my 4wd F150 - but I wont be camping or staying overnight. and don't worry about "lifestyle" stuff, I just enjoy company of like minded people enjoying the outdoors ... but you can do whatever you want in the backseat of my truck while i drive
Hey thanks AQ and it's not a V8 yet but it will be soon! I do have fun playing in the sand in 2WD, I get way too much traction in 4WD - LOL. And yes, I am a member of the picture group and back to our food posts, your burgers look like they are sent directly from heaven and I'm sure they taste even better, well done!!
Thanks for the all the replys! Do you all know exactly what kind of ticket I will get for being nude? I have a certification that requires me to report every class b and above misdemeanor + felonies. However, its sounds like a great time I'm hoping that my brother will allow me to borrow is 4wd truck so I can come out chill with you all.
I don’t know the type of charge but search this forum and you’ll find out the fine is pretty expensive. I’ve heard upwards of $1000. As long as your genitals are covered they won’t usually ticket you; actually I think that’s the rule. Most men I’ve seen wear a skimpy thong; most women are topless with a skimpy thong. As for driving down the beach, I wouldn’t do it in a car. You loose cell phone service a few miles down and if you go on the wrong day there won’t be many people there. I have a lifted 4x4 so I don’t worry too much but I am still cautious where I drive. Hope this helps.
So it is really up to the GW on how they want to write up the ticket but if he cites you for public nudity or indecent exposure, it is a Class B misdemeanor; however, the GW is likely to write you a Class C disorderly conduct with a fine of not more than $500 as most nudists don't meet all three criteria for a Class B citation. Either way it's not worth it, be sure to keep something close to slip on or cover up with if you see someone approaching and you are not sure if it is the GW. Hanging out with others can help too, more eyes looking up and down the beach for approaching vehicles as even though it may not be the GW, sometimes families like to drive the length of the beach. The only thing that must be covered is your genitals and anus, a simple thong will do. I know that is a lot but don't let it discourage you, it's not like the GW is running up and down the beach all day, every day. I go out 2-3 weekends each month if the weather is half way decent and I've only seen him out once this year and I guess I left the beach just ahead of his arrive on July 4th. Once you get down to the Old Pier area, you can easily see a mile or more in either direction so plenty of time to cover up if you see a vehicle in the distance approaching. Never assume the GW is your friend or trying to make nice and if he asks what you have on under your towel, it is none of his business and you don't have to answer and absolutely don't show him. They usually won't bother you if they can see that you are covered, they will simply keep driving. I know that was a lot, but don't let it discourage you from visiting the beach and getting naked!

So I turned my back to put up the shelter, and he snuck up on us. It’s the CVB. They issue petty tickets on federal land. Don’t think the beach is federal land but, $430 and I don’t think it’s anything more than a petty crime. If you read the definition of what the CVB does that’s what it says. First time to see anyone. I think there’s also a game warden. Haven’t seen him. He drives a sand color atv. Central violations bureau is who was running July 4th wrote a lot of tickets. They also enforce fishing violations. Probably how they get mixed up with the game warden. Little fuckers.
Thinking back to the Eighties, especially, and the Nineties, to a lesser degree, nude use was much more spread-out, and discreet. I am wondering whether crowding into the relatively small stretch of beach, in the McFaddin NWR, is still a best practice, for nude beach-goers. If all of the enforcement we are seeing is coming from federal LE, well, perhaps we should not play ball on their field?
According to the site, CVB citations are only issued for violations on federally-administered land, or specific federal violations that occur other places. I am not a lawyer, but tend to doubt that federal LEOs can cite for state misdemeanors on state land.
Of course, a Texas STATE Game Warden is a Texas Peace Officer, so can cite for state misdemeanors, anywhere in Texas. As I understand it, most federal entities allow Texas Peace Officers to enforce state laws in the federal lands. (In Texas, “peace officer” includes police, sheriffs and their deputies, constables and their deputies, and investigators, marshals, and such, employed by a range of state and local official entities.)
When I was at the beach a few weeks ago, I stopped about two miles from High Island, about a mile past the last of the small clusters of folks remaining near High Island, The next vehicles, farther toward the NWR, were several miles distant. Only one vehicle approached from the direction of High Island, and stopped about a mile past me. One rude voyeur approached from the direction of the NWR, and stopped to look at me with binoculars, but soon moved along, apparently when he realized I was going to remain clothed, neck to feet, long sleeves and long trousers. Neither vehicles’ approach caught me by surprise, as I was heads-up, eyes-open, watching the birds and wildlife, so I could have been discreetly nude, had I chosen to do so. (My fair skin was so damaged by the sun, in my twenties and thirties, and I chill easily, so I tend to wear a hoodie, or rash-guard type of swimming shirt, even when otherwise naked.)
The McFaddin NWR used to be only on the inland side of Highway 87. There was a fence, with plenty of signage. As the storms eroded the beach, the shoreline moved across the highway, into the NWR. That is when “our nude beach” became a federal concern. Life has not been the same, since then.
Not taking any sides, here; it just is what it is. The ultra-neo-ish-whatever conservativeZ are running the executive branch of the federal government, at least until late January 2021.
I have bought small boats. (Yes, several; thieves like small boats, too.) A tidal creek, or backwater part of a lake, can be a secluded nude site.
