Has anyone ever been to the ufo beach in south padre island ?
I've been to that beach! The water is so much more blue there. The "UFO" is an old escape capsule that washed up on the beach. People decorated it over the years with seashells and other items. I have a pic somewhere. I wonder if it's still there.
I've been once, a long time ago and loved it. Unfortunately I didn't know about the nude beach then so I will definitely have to made a trip down there again sometime. I think I read somewhere that the "UFO" was gone but I'll have to recheck my sources, truly a shame if it is no longer there as I have only seen pictures and was looking forward to adding my own little piece of history to the monument.
Managed to at least get enough courage to change into some trunks and chill in the water and on the beach for a while. Still too nervous to do much more then that when it's just me, too many random trucks driving by.
I definitely want to come again, it was very relaxing!
There is not as much traffic in the morning and early afternoon. About mid-afternoon to sundown on Saturday, the traffic definitely picks up so If you do work up the nerve to drop the trunks, you definitely want to find a spot to park where you can see approaching vehicles and keep something close to cover up. BTW, if the game warden happens by and you cover up with a towel and he asks if you have anything on under the towel, you are neither required to show him nor answer that question. If he persists, pick up your phone and start recording!!
It is good to have a buddy system, so that one is on look-out, while one or more others can relax. Getting an even, all-over tan is no longer my thing, and I like looking for birds, dolphins, and such, so I do not consider look-out duty to be a chore. Really, with a look-out/over-watch, it is not necessary to travel all the way to the NWR to enjoy nudity. Exposure is only indecent if someone is present to be offended or alarmed, so, if one is covered, or the relevant bits are otherwise concealed, from those who would be offended or alarmed, I see no actual violation of the law. (I am not a lawyer.)
I would not mind being on short-term over-watch duty for someone I were to meet, at the beach.
I actually spent a lot of my time in the water watching birds or on the beach watching birds, it was very relaxing. Having someone to talk to would have made it even better. Wish I wasn't so far away, I would be down all the time!
